UK And Saudi Arabia: A Motoring Queen Drove a Nervous King

The death of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has brought considerable debate over whether he should be remembered as a "reformer" or the very opposite of one; whether his legacy will be that he preserved Saudi Arabia's future or limited its present.
But as this story from a former British Ambassador to Saudi Arabia makes clear, there is one thing he will never be: as much of a stone-cold badass as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles was given a private audience with the Queen when he was appointed Ambassador to Saudi Arabia in 2003. At the time, Abdullah was technically still the crown prince, though he'd been de facto ruler for several years. During their meeting, she gleefully recounted the story of Abdullah's first visit to Balmoral, her castle in Scotland. It all started innocently enough, with an offer to tour the estate:
After lunch, the Queen had asked her royal guest whether he would like a tour of the estate. Prompted by his foreign minister the urbane Prince Saud, an initially hesitant Abdullah had agreed. The royal Land Rovers were drawn up in front of the castle. As instructed, the Crown Prince climbed into the front seat of the front Land Rover, his interpreter in the seat behind.

Royal Gatherings London: Books Authored by Our Speakers (2)

One of our most talented contributors is Ilana D. Miller, an American author with four books to her name and one near publication.

Ms Miller is an Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, and serves as one of the editors at EUROHISTORY. She has a section inside the pages of of The European Royal History Journal (EUROHISTORY), for which she has written nearly fifty articles on various royal gatherings. In fact, the success experienced by Ms. Miller's section, titled Who Is in the Photograph, led to the publication of ROYAL GATHERINGS (Volume I), a book about a selection of royal gatherings that took place between 1859-1914. This book she co-authored by Arturo E. Beéche, founder of EUROHISTORY, one of the leading royalty magazines today. The book's success led Miller and Beéche to work on several cooperative projects, among them the second volume of ROYAL GATHERINGS and an upcoming book on the Grand Ducal House of Hesse and by Rhine.

Her most successful book is The Four Graces: Queen Victoria's Hessian Granddaughters, lauded by the late Margrave Moritz of Hesse as, "the best book ever written about that side of our family."

She also participated in authoring one very popular anthologies on the Romanov Dynasty: The Grand Dukes: Sons and Grandsons of Russia's Tsars.

Ms Miller's other publication credits include the non-fiction narrative Reports from America: William Howard Russell and the Civil War (Sutton Publishing, 2001), as well as a fictionalized novel titled The Royal Mob.

Royal Gatherings in London: Books Authored by Our Speakers

Royal Gatherings London has invited a select group of historians to give lectures during our conference on April 25-26, 2015.

As we go along, and in preparation for the conference, we will feature some of the books written by our distinguished lecturers.

First, we have talented royal jewel historian Stefano Papi, who has written extremely interesting books on the jewels of the Royal House of Savoy and the Imperial House of Russia. Mr. Papi is one of the most knowledgeable royal jewel experts of today.

We are looking forward to his lecture on "THE JEWELS OF GRAND DUCHESS MARIE PAVLOVNA, SR."

Royal Gatherings London – April 25-26, 2015: Ticket Information

It has not been a week since we announced our upcoming conference, ROYAL GATHERINGS LONDON, to be held in London on April 25 and 26, 2015. The London event is a sister conference of Royal Gatherings The Hague, scheduled to convene in The Hague this November 2015.

The response to our Royal Gatherings London has left us overwhelmed, yet not unpleasantly surprised!

In our first week we have sold close to 60% of the available seats!

Although we are more than three months away, we expect the event will sell out much sooner than we anticipated ... hence, if interested in joining this select group of speakers and royal history enthusiasts, do not hesitate to let us know ASAP if you wish to participate. Once the seats have been filled, we cannot add more spaces and we will be forced to turn people away, much to our chagrin ...

Over 60% of seats available sold in the first week!

Attached is a leaflet with further information pertaining to the lectures and speakers, registration, payment and such ...

We hope to see you in April!
