UK: Prince George of Cambridge's Baptism

From the BBC...

The names of Prince George's seven godparents have been announced ahead of his christening later.

They are Oliver Baker, Emilia Jardine-Paterson, Earl Grosvenor, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, Julia Samuel, William van Cutsem and Zara Tindall.

Zara Tindall, wife of former England rugby international Mike Tindall, is Prince William's cousin.

The Archbishop of Canterbury will christen the three-month-old prince at St James's Palace in central London.

The private service will take place at 15:00 BST and last about 45 minutes.

New Book: The Coburgs of Europe

We are uploading the order form for our newest publication, Arturo Beéche's The Coburgs of Europe – The Rise and Fall of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's European Family.

The book will start mailing at the beginning of November 2013!

Inside the book, readers will find the fascinating story of all the branches of the Coburg Dynasty, including the Coburgs of Vienna, the Coburgs of Lisbon, the Coburgs of Brussels, the Coburgs of London and the Ducal Coburgs.

Special attention was paid by the author to a group of Coburg women whose marriages brought them positions of great power and influence!

Inside the 376 glossy pages, readers will also find a healthy number of family trees, as well as more than 500 images of the Coburgs, many of these photographs are quite rare, for they were either taken by the author or provided by the various Coburgs who aided in the project.

The Coburgs of Europe: dust jacket Preview!

Today I received copy of the dust jacket to be used for my newest book, THE COBURGS OF EUROPE: The Rise and Fall of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's European Family.''

Always, the arrival of a new book is like witnessing the birth of a project, the completing of the circle that began with an idea, continued with research, proceeded to writing and ended with publication!

Very, very excited about this new book!

Several of the subjects in the book have already asked to buy copies and invited me to come visit while in Europe this November!

EUROHISTORY: Issue XCIV, Volume 16.4 in Production

Since THE COBURGS OF EUROPE was released to the printer on Monday, now I am focused on getting ready the latest issue of EUROHISTORY ready for publication.

I will reveal contents tomorrow, once I find out how many articles will fit.

The issue will go to print on Monday and begin mailing at the end of the next week!

Issue XCV (October 2013) will follow soon after since I will be away to give a lecture at Hoogstraten Booksellers in the Hague on November 3, followed by a visit to Hemmelmark, Schwerin, Coburg, Munich and Vienna.

Parma: Wedding of Prince Jaime of Bourbon-Parma

Prince Jaime of Bourbon-Parme married Viktória Cservenyák on 5 October 2013 at the kerk van Onze Lieve Vrouwe ten Hemelopneming in Apeldoorn. Prince Jaime several years ago received the parmesan title of Count di Bardi from his late father. 

Interestingly, The Spanish Carlists, through which Duke Carlos Xavier claims to be the "rightful" King of Spain (dear sweet Jesus!), announced the wedding and listed the bride as having a Carlist title all her own, Countess of Montizón. The last Carlist to bear the title of Count of Montizón was Juan (1822-1887). He was married to Archduchess Maria Beatrix of Austria-Este, a Modenese Habsburg, by whom he had two sons: the Duke of Madrid and the Duke of San Jaime. Madrid married Princess margherita of Bourbon-Parma in 1867 and it is through this connection that the Bourbon-Parma became associated with Carlism. Two of Margherita's nephews, Sixtus and Xavier, later laid claim to the Carlist movement once the male branch of descendants from the Infante don Carlos (father of Montizón) died out. Unfathomable that a movement that claimed not to recognize the succession of Queen Isabel II, a first cousin of the Count of Montizón, is now led by a Bourbon branch whose closest contact to the Spanish Royal Family is through a female line. Yet another unexplainable fact of royal trivia.

The Bride was born in Budapest on 25 May 1982. She spent her youth in Hungary and Switzerland, and moved at the age of 8 to the Netherlands and grew up in Apeldoorn. Viktória studied law in Utrecht. She later obtained a Master's Degree in Business at Nyenrode and the University of Amsterdam. She currently works as a lawyer for the Dutch bank Radobank.

Prince Jaime is the second son of the late Duke Carlos Hugo of Parma and of his former wife Princess Irene of the Netherlands. Jaime has a twin, Princess Margarita, who is married to a Dutchman by the name of Tjalling Siebe ten Cate. Jaime also has an older brother and a younger sister. His brother is Duke Carlos Xavier, who succeeded as Head of House upon the death of their father in 2010. The sister is Princess Maria Caroline, Marchesa di Sala, who is married to Dutchman Albert Brenninkmeijer.

The Groom is a first cousin of King Willem Alexander of the Netherlands, who was present at the wedding with his wife Queen Máxima and their three daughters. Also present were: Princess Irene of Lippe-Biesterfeld (the Groom's mother), Princess Beatrix, Princess Margriet with her husband Pieter van Vollenhoven, and Princess Christina. Other family members included Prince Constantijn and his wife, Princess Mabel (widow of Prince Friso), as well as most of Princess Margriet and Princess Christina' descendants. Princess Maria Teresa of Bourbon-Parma attended the wedding tolend her support to her nephew. Also there were Prince Charles-Henri de Lobkowicz (a first cousin of the Groom), Prince Lelio Orsini and Count Alexander of Stolberg-Stolberg and his wife, Princess Isabel d'Orléans-Braganza.

The wedding was followed by a reception at the Het Loo Palace in Apeldoorn.

Very Exciting news!!

Amazon has our newest book, THE COBURGS OF EUROPE, listed now.

The book's cover is representative of its content. The upper half is green, the lower half is white. These were the colors of the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha.

The photo chosen for the cover features the nine monarchs present at King Edward VII's funeral in 1910. Among them are four male-line Coburgs: King George V of Great Britain, King Ferdinand of Bulgaria, King Manoel II of Portugal and King Albert I of Belgium. Of the other five featured: King Alfonso XIII of Spain and King Haakon VII of Norway married granddaughters of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert; Kaiser Wilhelm II was a grandson of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, while his wife was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria's half-sister, Fürstin Feodora of Leiningen; George I of the Hellenes and Frederik VIII of Denmark, were brothers-in-law of the late Edward VII, while several of their descendants eventually married Coburgs.

Illustrating the dynasty's power, are the coats of arms of the five thrones occupied by Coburg men in 1910: Belgium, Portugal, Saxe-Coburg & Gotha, Great Britain and Bulgaria.

The book is a large coffee-table style production. It has 376 pages in glossy paper finish and includes well over 500 unique images of the various branches of the Coburg family. Many of these images have not been published in books before!
